How many times a day do you find yourself hearing or even saying, “I’m busy!”?
When you hear, “I’m busy!”, what do you think they are really saying to you?
In our time and age, we seem to be saying it more often than not. Most of us don’t feel as though we have enough hours in the day to complete all of our to-do tasks, let alone live a fulfilling and enjoyable life as well.
Why does it feel as though 24 hours in a day is never enough?
One of the most common issues I’ve come across with business owners is time management. They feel as though there is never enough time to work on their business, to exercise or to spend time with their kids or friends. We are always busy, busy, busy!
But when we are always busy, what are we really saying? Or what does the other person make it mean for them?
For example, when we tell our kids we are too busy to throw a ball in the park, what do you think our children really hear? Or when we tell our parents that we can’t talk on the phone, because you have a million things to do? How do your friends/family/kids feel when you are always too busy to spend time with them? If it’s only occasional, most people understand. When it’s every day or every time they call, did you know it can actually start to wear down your relationships.
Time management is your responsibility, and it’s also your choice in where you invest your time. Our personality and internal clock can also affect how we manage our day to day life.
Now, there are two types of people when it comes to time.
Some people are “through time” people and others are an “in time” people.
Which one are you?
A through time person is always conscious of what needs to be done next. They know they need to leave the house by a specific time to make it on time for work. Through time people love lists, they HATE being late, will love using organisers and will want to complete things…now!
In NLP Neuro Linguistic Programming, through time people store their memories left to right or right to left or in any other way so that all time is in front of them. Your timeline will always be in front of your eyes. It’s easy for you to focus on multiple mental images as you’ll know what is coming next and what time you need to have something done by.
In time people love to live in the moment and internally store time. In time people are open-ended, they despise lists and are often late to appointments. You’ll find it easier to be “in the here and now” and prefer not to plan.
In NLP, “in time” people tend to have their timeline passing through them with the past behind them and the future in front of them. They avoid setting deadlines and may even forget birthdays, anniversaries or other significant dates.
Most people will have a preferred style of processing time; however, it is possible to learn how to move between both types when needed. This allows you to develop flexibility with your tasks and your time management and possibly say “I’m busy’ less!
