When was the last time you celebrated something small in your life?
No, I’m not talking about when you brought your new car or when you closed a major deal at work. I’m talking about the really small things, like the great cup of coffee you had today or the backload of emails you finally filed.
We live in a culture where we are expected to only focus on the big things and big dreams. We’re so busy with the future goals that we forget to acknowledge or appreciate the small pieces of the puzzle that helped us get there. Little moments that bring us joy are filed under the insignificant or unimportant list.
But, what if it was different? What if we made a conscious decision to stop, embrace and celebrate the small things? There are beautiful, amazing things that happen every day that can bring us joy, contentment and happiness- but we have to make the conscious decision to stop and appreciate them.
With deadlines, meetings, and after-school soccer practice, it can feel like life moves so quickly, leaving you without time to take a breath. But, sometimes that is precisely what we need to do. Take. A. Breath. Enjoy the cold, crisp air around you. Smell the dreamy aromas of a fresh coffee being brewed. Listen to your children’s excited voice as they tell you about their day at school. The smallest of things can bring us so much joy. Take the time each day to find three things that make you happy. You will be surprised at how much gratitude can change your perspective.
The same goes for your business or your personal goals. Sometimes the “end goal” is actually months or even years away.

When the ambition of the end goal overwhelms us, it can feel like a very long, drawn-out process to achieve our dreams. In a rush to complete the big dream, we fail to celebrate or acknowledge the small steps (or bricks!) that we need to build in order to get there. No wonder we feel exhausted and burnt out!
We may not realise, but small things we achieve in our everyday life, are actually building towards your dream goal. And they deserve to be appreciated! Each small step is teaching us something that will help us in the bigger picture. Even the failures are helping us learn about ourselves or our business. As the age old saying goes, Rome wasn’t built in a day!
Our life isn’t made up of one big defining moment. It’s made up of thousands of little moments that bring us joy or teach us about ourselves. It’s listening to your baby giggle or watching them fall asleep in your arms. It’s taking the time to walk around the block even if your end goal is to lose 10kg. It’s taking the scenic route home so you can stop and appreciate the beautiful countryside.
When we stop to acknowledge the small moments, life feels far more significant and meaningful. Real life isn’t about being a millionaire; it’s about the everyday steps that helped us to get there. The truth is, the small things really are what makes us the happiest.
