Consistency develops routines that turn into habits. These habits become second nature and drive you to push towards your goals. The small actions that you repeat each day with consistency lead you to your big achievements over time.
Consistency is important in all aspects of your life. Your reputation, your lifestyle and your emotional wellbeing all rely on you to be consistent in your actions.
Consistency is especially important in business. Take a restaurant as an example — regular customers keeping coming back because they consistently have great food. If you drop the ball and start delivering lousy service or bad food, you will lose customers. Consistency helps build businesses and their reputation.
Service-based industries rely heavily on consistency. A client may hire you for a project, and if you fail to be consistent in the level of service you give, the client will go and find someone else. In business, people want consistency, and they want it delivered every time. Even as an employee, you are expected to be consistent in your behaviour and attitude within your workplace. Consistency builds trust within the workplace and helps develop positive relationships.
The same principle applies to your personal life. Consistency is important for all aspects of caring for yourself, whether it is exercise, eating right, sleeping or meditation. In fact, just like building muscles at the gym or learning a new language, you need to practice and build on your skills regularly. Once we drop the consistency, it becomes hard to master new skills or habits.
Consistency is important for when you are learning a new skill, but it’s even more important for your wellbeing. Being consistent in your sleeping habits and eating habits are the pillars for your mental and physical health. Without consistency, we open up the doors to feeling emotionally and physically overwhelmed.
Our friends and family also rely on us to be consistent in our actions and behaviours. How would you feel if your husband/wife started being inconsistent in their behaviour? Our consistent behaviour provides a sense of comfort and security to our loved ones. When we stop being consistent, it shakes up the balance of the relationship and the trust we have for one another.
