How Birds Could Be the Gateway to Stronger Decision-making Outcomes

Some people are better decision makers than others. By the influence we had in our upbringing and our personality style, the way we make decisions each day can be vastly different to those around us.

Are you an Eagle ready to soar? Perhaps you’re an Owl that sits back and studies? Whilst you might think we’re being metaphorical here; we’re actually talking about different personality styles that influence decision making.

Unlike other personality style assessments, this test divides people in four different bird groups: a dove, an owl, a peacock and an eagle. Representing the different desires, emotional needs, decision making styles and controlling characteristics, these birds help you to better understand how you navigate the world around you and enable you to play at your strengths to get better outcomes.

The Eagle
Bold, dominant and direct is the eagle that stands over the other birds. They are natural leaders and high achievers with often little acknowledgement of the needs of others around them. In their blunt nature comes a strong sense of stubbornness which can impact their ability to make decisions that serve the big picture or others.

The Peacock
Passionate and enthusiastic, the peacock loves a performance. They exude energy and make decisions without acknowledgement of all the finer details or timelines.

The Owl
The wise owl as it’s often called, is methodical, mathematical and logical. Often known as a perfectionist, owls can be slower at making decisions until they have balanced all of the risks and benefits of the situation. They love detail!

The Dove
Like its personification, the dove is peaceful and loyal. Whilst it has a high emotional intelligence, it avoids conflict, change and risk-taking. Through its friendly and hard-working nature, the dove struggles to make decisions under confrontation or assertiveness.

Behind the birds is a knowledge base of an individual’s strengths and weaknesses. Knowing how they naturally operate helps you to learn their preferred way of making decisions and consequently, ensure you’re giving them everything they need to achieve the goal outcome.

For example, if you’re wanting to make a decision with an owl, you’re going to want to have all of the finer details prepared for them. An eagle on the other hand wants to know how it is benefitting them so it’s best to get right to the point.

Managing the decision outcome and emotions of all parties, these personality insights ensure that when you adjust your way of thinking (to suit them), you have the ability to change the outcome.

This powerful understanding can be applied to your professional and personal life when navigating the needs, wants and outcomes of any situation. When walking into a room, you’re able to identify the different birds surrounding you and how through shifting your thinking and actions, you can get what you need from that person, quicker.

So, which bird, or birds, are you?
