Goals can feel like fuzzy things sometimes – and the process of making let alone keeping them can be just as opaque. That’s where a professional business coach can come in handy. When I offer business coaching in Melbourne to clients, together we explore ways to keep the client accountable to their goals. Here are a few strategies that we commonly apply for sticking to resolutions and paving the way to success throughout the year.
Strategy 1 – Use a Diary
Using a diary to note down to-do items, make lists and fill in appointments isn’t only essential for basic organisation, but helps to keep goals at the top of your mind. If you write down ‘to-do x’ on Monday and it’s Wednesday now, you can look back at that note and be reminded that you still need to do that task. Things have much more chance of getting done when they’re written down in one spot.
Strategy 2 – Find an Action Partner
If you’re working with a small business coach in Melbourne currently, then you might use them as your action partner. Or it might be a good idea to hire a professional business coach for that purpose. Otherwise, you can choose any suitable likeminded friend who is also working towards their goals as your action partner. As long as you have the shared intention of making positive changes in your life, it should work. Your action partner is there for accountability. You can text, message or call them for support either before or after a difficult action.
Strategy 3 – Write Down Your Goals Every Day
Most people never write down their goals, and the goals lurk about in their brain like a piece of macaroni in a bowl of minestrone soup. But that isn’t what we want. Some people do write down their goals – once a year. But the most effective people write their goals down every single day. Yes, every day. That’s what it takes to have laser precision focus on your goals all year. If you’re serious about achieving your goals for this year, write them down every day. Even twice a day wouldn’t hurt.
